Did Mormon Founder Suffer from Effects of Childhood Trauma?
William D. Morain, MDA new book from American Psychiatric Press suggests that Joseph Smith, Jr, founder of the Mormon movement, suffered lasting psychological trauma from his brutal leg operations without anesthesia at the age of seven. The psychological impact of that event and of the later death and exhumation of his older brother may be seen in the religious structure Smith founded.
